UNVEILING THE MYSTERY: HOW OLD IS YOUR AIR CONDITIONER?

Aug 1, 2023 | AC, AGE, Air Conditioner, Air Conditioning System, Brand, Condenser, Lifespan, Manufacture Date, Model, Nameplate, Online, Outdoor Unit, Serial Number

Do you know the age of your AC? It may seem unnecessary, but this is information we highly recommend all of our customers know. Because air conditioners typically last anywhere from 15-20 years, it’s never a bad idea to know the age of your own air conditioner. Being aware and prepared is key. That way, you can be prepared and plan accordingly as time continues to pass. Air conditioners will lose efficiency as they get older. So, if you have been suspicious of your own air conditioning system not performing as it used to, now is the perfect time to, at the very least, pinpoint its age so you can prepare as needed.

Don’t know where to start? No problem! Bridgetown Heating & Cooling team has provided the steps below to help you determine the age of your air conditioner:

1. LOOK AT THE CONDENSER’S NAMEPLATE-

It’s actually not too difficult to find the appropriate info. For starters, you should try locating the manufacturer’s date by checking the nameplate on the side of the condenser. If you don’t know what the condenser is, it is the large metal box outside your home – usually located on the side or backyard of your house. Once you have located the nameplate on the condenser, check the upper right corner of the nameplate for the date of manufacture. This date is usually labeled as MFR DATE. However, it may be presented differently on each nameplate as each model varies. If you still can’t find it, it’s time to move to the second step below.

2. LOOK ONLINE-

If you’re unable to find the manufacturing date on the condenser’s nameplate, go ahead and write down the brand, model, and serial number of the unit. These should all be listed on the nameplate. You can also just snap a quick picture of the plate if that is easier for you.

Next, go ahead and input this information into any search engine online and add “manufacture date” at the end of the end. A website should pop up providing exact instructions for your particular cooling unit, indicating how to decode the manufacturing date of your exact model. Once you have gone through the process of pinpointing your unit’s manufacturer date – congrats! You did it!
