Are you worried about high energy bills from running your AC constantly this summer? If so, Bridgetown Heating & Cooling can help you find the ideal temperature setting for your home to conserve energy while keeping you and your family cool this season.

HOW DO YOU FIND YOUR PERFECT AC TEMPERATURE?

The US Department of Energy recommends setting thermostats to 78° during summer for energy savings. However, we believe there is no one-size-fits-all solution; this number may not work for everyone. In fact, you may need to experiment to find the right temperature that is both comfortable and energy-efficient.

A little trial and error may be necessary to determine your ideal temperature. However, you can start with the suggested temperature of 78°F. Set your thermostat to this temperature for a few hours to see if it is comfortable for your household members. Then, adjust the temperature one or two degrees at a time, depending on everyone’s reaction over the next couple of days. Just keep in mind that the average temperature for most homes is between 73°F to 79°F. On top of that, setting your thermostat to a lower temperature will increase your energy bill, so consider this when determining the optimal temperature for your home.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT TEMPERATURE SETTING SHOULD BE USED WHEN YOU’RE AWAY?

If you’re going on vacation during the summer, what temperature should you set your thermostat to while you’re away? Good question! You want to save energy, but you also don’t want your belongings to be affected by high temperatures. To balance these concerns, it’s recommended that you raise your thermostat by 10 degrees from your normal AC temperature when you are away for extended periods of time.

HOW DO YOU KNOW WHAT KIND OF THERMOSTAT TO USE?

Traditional thermostats are great! But having a smart thermostat can help you save energy and is convenient!  People often forget to adjust the temperature before going on a trip, but with a smart thermostat, you can do it remotely from your phone. By adjusting the temperature of your thermostat, you can ensure that your home is at an energy-efficient temperature while you are away but ready to greet you with a cool environment upon your return! This will save you energy and provide added convenience. So, if you don’t own a smart thermostat yet, but are interested in one, give us a call today!
